ASMP-DC Presents
with Paula Lerner

AFGHAN STORIES
Plenty of news stories out of Afghanistan cover the ongoing insurgency and hardships of war. But few tell of how people are rebuilding in war's aftermath. Two exhibits and additional events explore this other side of Afghanistan.
Since 2005 Boston-based photojournalist Paula Lerner has made multiple trips to Afghanistan to document the lives of women in that country. At the multimedia presentations described below, she will show the multimedia feature The Women of Kabul, produced in collaboration with the washingtonpost.com, as well as present Hidden Lives, a multimedia piece on women in Kandahar. Both of these features give women in different walks of life a chance to tell their powerful stories, opening a window on a world that has been largely unknown or closed to Western observers.
